Obama filing his OWN Impeachment papers???
72A Ritual????
When I read this article sent to my email this evening, I again had my jaw drop to the floor.
I know this has been on the table and in a lot of people’s minds for a long time now, but how can he go off on a ten day tour of Asia, and come back to state :
“Over the last two years, we’ve made progress, But now it is time to join the time-honored tradition of impeaching a president who takes a shellacking in the midterm elections. I bear responsibility for that.” The president added that by taking the initiative in his own impeachment, he provided a common ground on which he and the Republican leadership could work together over the coming year and avoid the sort of “political logjam that lacks entertainment value for American citizens.”
I am sorry. But not really. What progress have we actually made in the last two years?? And where did the term “entertainment value” come from and how does it enter into the proper running of our great country? And I also have a question concerning the One Billion dollars he sent to Pakistan. One Billion ?? What could that money have done for our country??
“Impeachment is something that I think every president needs to go through. In the rush of activity, sometimes we lose track of the ways that we won voters in the first place – the promise of conciliation and agreement.” When asked about the politics that accompanies evidentiary hearings in the House of Representatives, Mr. Obama explained, “Despite necessary ugliness that always seems to follow impeachment proceedings, I do believe there is hope for civility.
Let us look at the impeachment process for a moment:
What is impeachment?
*** It is a process, authorized by the Constitution, to bring charges against certain officials of the federal government for misconduct while in office.
Who are these officials?
*** Article 2, Section 4, specifies that "The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors." These "civil officers" include federal judges and cabinet members, but do not include Senators and Representatives, (the Senate and House deal with misconduct by their own members).
What is the role of the House of Representatives in impeachment under the Constitution?
*** Article 1, Section 2, of the Constitution specifies that "the House of Representatives...shall have the sole power of impeachment." This means that it has the power to bring charges against an official.
What is the Senate's role under the Constitution?
*** Once impeached, high officials are tried by the Senate. Article 1, Section 3, specifies, "The Senate shall have the sole power to try all impeachments. When sitting for that purpose, they shall be on oath or affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no person shall be convicted without the concurrence of two thirds of the members present."
What punishment does the Constitution prescribe if the official is convicted?
*** Article 1, Section 3, also specifies, "Judgment in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States: but the party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to indictment, trial, judgment and punishment, according to law."
What else does the Constitution say about impeachment?
*** Article 2, Section 2, gives the President the "Power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment." Article 3, Section 2, says, "The trial of all crimes, except in cases of impeachment; shall be by jury..."
What are the grounds for impeachment?
*** As noted above, the Constitution specifies that high government officials may be impeached for "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors." What precisely constitutes "high crimes and misdemeanors" is, however, uncertain because the courts have not specifically defined or interpreted the term, unlike other constitutional clauses. Treason and bribery are very serious offenses against the state, and most experts agree that offenses encompassed within "high crimes and misdemeanors" are similarly serious. ("Misdemeanors" is a constitutional term that does not have the current meaning of an offense less serious than a felony.)
The following excerpt taken from Wikipedia,
will explain how many people have actually been impeached and for what reasons in the past 200 years:
History of Federal Impeachment Proceedings in the United States
Congress regards impeachment as a power to be used only in extreme cases; the House has initiated impeachment proceedings only 64 times since 1789 (most recently against Judge Thomas Porteous of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana), and only the following 19 federal officials have been under threat of impeachment by congress (and some of them have been impeached):
* Two presidents:
o Andrew Johnson, Democrat, was impeached in 1868 after violating the then-newly created Tenure of Office Act. President Johnson was acquitted by the Senate, falling one vote short of the necessary 2/3 needed to remove him from office, voting 35-19 to remove him. The Tenure of Office Act would later be found unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of the United States in dicta.
o Bill Clinton, Democrat, was impeached on December 19, 1998, by the House of Representatives on articles charging perjury (specifically, lying to a federal grand jury) by a 228–206 vote, and obstruction of justice by a 221–212 vote. The House rejected other articles. One was a count of perjury in a civil deposition in Paula Jones's sexual harassment lawsuit against Clinton (by a 205–229 vote) and an article which accused Clinton of abuse of power by a 48–285 vote. President Clinton was acquitted by the Senate on February 12, 1999. The Senate vote fell short of the necessary 2/3 needed to remove him from office, voting 45-55 to remove him on obstruction of justice and 50-50 on perjury.
* One cabinet officer, William W. Belknap (Secretary of War). He resigned before his trial, and was later acquitted. Allegedly most of those who voted to acquit him believed that his resignation had removed their jurisdiction.
* One Senator, William Blount, in 1797. He was expelled by the Senate, which declined to try the impeachment.
* One Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, Samuel Chase in 1804. He was acquitted by the Senate.
* Fourteen other federal judges, including Alcee Hastings, who was impeached and convicted for taking over $150,000 in bribe money in exchange for sentencing leniency. The Senate did not bar Hastings from holding future office, and Hastings won election to the House of Representatives from Florida. Hastings's name was mentioned as a possible Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, but was passed over by House Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi, presumably because of his previous impeachment and removal. Richard Nixon, Republican, was never impeached. While the House Judiciary Committee did approve articles of impeachment against him and did report those articles to the House of Representatives, Nixon resigned before the House could consider the impeachment resolutions and was subsequently pardoned by President Ford, although this would have had no binding effect on the impeachment proceedings.
So, is Obama planning to resign????
Or is this just another ploy by him to gain more notoriety in his present office?? As far as I am able to read into what is happening here, he once again does not believe he has actually committed crimes against our United States. One thing more.....if this process IS allowed not only to start, but to continue, let me state this. It WILL confirm once and for all that he has the right to be the President.....no matter if he has a United States birth certificate or not. This may be his agenda.....and this needs to be looked at.
We go back to the birth certificate issue. This has never been resolved. There have been so many lies concerning his place of birth and I hate to tell the people in the US who are adament he was born in Hawaii, he was not born there. Hawaii is not claiming this is his birthright.
In effect of the statements of filing his own impeachment, he has jumped the gun and it would not surprise me one bit if the House and the Congress continued on and removed all parties concerned with his stay in office. His Vice has gone along and instigated proceedings right beside him, so I truly think the job needs to be finished off. Certainly we are due for a total change of venue.....The overspending and the printing of money devaluing our dollar must cease.
Are we playing yet one more game? I do not believe that “every President” should go through the impeaching process....only the ones who do not serve our God and our Country.
I think our loyal Tea Party members should look into what is happening here and make their move as well. We are able to take back our United States NOW.....let's keep the ball rolling and don't back down!!

The Clinton impeachment did become a circus. Also it got sidetracked on the serious abuses of power I don't think were addressed.
I think it may be Obama's way of saying "here go ahead, I'll get it started for you, I have nothing to hide " type of thing, as for the birth certificate, a president doesn't need to be born a citizen only be one for 14 years before running for the position, so why is it such an issue with the media and such, it confuses me. Great hub, interesting issue. Thanks
I think it's more cost effective to just wait and vote him out in 2012. All those constitutional articles add up to a big bill for the taxpayer, and take up congressional time that would be better spent figuring out the budget. If you have to impeach someone, go after the lawmakers who seek to follow a process of voting before reading the laws they pass.
Very well said and very interesting.
Ah....Obama resigns! A dream come true1 I wonder how many 'citizens' will riot in the cities and people destroying their own neighborhoods and looting if this ever happens!
I will supply the paper and the pen if he will resign or sign his own impeachment papers! This man is so lost and committing sin upon sin, supporting things that truly are against God's Word! He will pay for it, though I will pray he sees the Truth. Jesus says to pray for you enemies! Not easy, but it is the right thing to do.
